At The Dance Space all dance classes are based on 15 fundamental dance concepts such as Direction, Level, Timing, Shape, and Rhythm. These basic concepts are the foundation for all styles of dance (and movement) Teaching through concepts allows students to develop a deep understanding of why/how the steps/movements are achieved and perform them with clarity and expressiveness. Each class is planned to develop both the skill/vocabulary of movement and the creative/composition aspect of dance. The skill development introduces students to basic vocabulary appropriate for the dance technique (ballet, jazz, hip hop and modern dance.) The creative/composition section of class includes improvisation and choreography exercises to develop creative problem solving, understanding of space and form, team work/communication and self-expression. The combination of skill development (technique) and creativity build a strong foundation in movement for all dance styles.

The Dance Space strongly recommends that students over 5 years old enroll in at least two classes per week. This will allow the student to progress more quickly, learn new skills and concepts more easily, and build muscle strength and coordination more effectively. Such successes will only enhance the student’s enjoyment of the process. To dance with grace, artistry and expression requires development of the mind and body through frequent practice and training. 2-3 classes per week will help the student achieve these goals. Recognizing this, The Dance Space tuition schedule is designed to make more frequent classes feasible for students and their families.

First Trial Class is Free! Call (808) 542-9442 to reserve your child’s place in class.
